Veteran, business owner and Chamber President, Barabin
joins Houston Council race
Houston, TX - Marlon D. Barabin has
officially announced his campaign for Houston City Council
At-Large 5.
Barabin, son of a retired Army Master Sergeant and health
care professional, followed in his father's footsteps
when on October 26, 1990 he enlisted in the 147th Fighter
Wing of the Armed Forces of the United States.
Barabin has served two tours in Iraq,
first in 2005 and again this past spring of this year.
“My experience overseas renewed my commitment
to serving our country and community and my prizing
the values of diplomacy, democracy and self-determination.”
Barabin has earned the rank Master Sergeant
in the Texas National Guard. He currently serves our
country, state and city in the US Air Force Reserves
at Houston's Ellington Field. Barabin believes what
national security is the national government public
safety for our property, our families and our business
must be to priority number one for our city.
Barabin believes what he defends in the military is
private sector free enterprise which he put into practice
in 2001 by building New Community Mortgage. Located
in Houston, America's entrepreneurial city, New Community
Mortgage is about expanding the American dream to allow
young families to build their homes and seniors to keep
their homes.
In 2004 Barabin, along with his business
partner, expanded his business by building New Community
Construction.
“As a business owner, I know our
city government can punish individual initiative with
harrassing high taxes, a punitive permitting process
and ever restrictive regulations. Making Houston again
a beacon for small business success for all its legal
tax paying and hard working public from no matter where
they come from is at the top of my list of priorities.
Barabin’s passion for private enterprise
success was saluted when he was elected last year President/CEO
of one of Houston's oldest chambers of commerce. Under
his leadership has increased 65 percent in less than
a year.
Election Day is Tuesday November 6. Early
Voting is October 22-November 2.
