Barabin Addresses questions on issues important to Houston Citizens:
(in alphabetical order)

What is your position on the City of Houston’s Affirmative Action program and the MWBE’s program? What would you do to encourage local Latino and African American owned businesses to obtain city contracts?

I would promote expanded outreach through the City’s Office of Affirmative action to ensure that small and minority owned business are fully informed of contracting opportunities and bid procedures in a timely and comprehensive manner.

What measures would you take in the prevention of chronic and infections illnesses in Houston (i.e. heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, influenza, sexually transmitted diseases, hepatitis, tuberculosis, HIV, etc.)
I would support educational efforts, like those of the Latino HIV task force and the African American State of Emergency Task force. Additionally, I would back community-business collaborations such as that exhibited between Texas Children’s Hospital and The Ripley House on Navigation to provide immunizations, preventative health care, and wellness education.

What is your position on the proposed changes to the North & East Corridor Metro Rail Lines to become BRT Lines and creating a new University Rail Line?
I support efforts that will help increase mobility throughout the City of Houston. With that said, I strongly encourage thorough input from the members of the communities where new transportation systems are implemented to ensure that residents and business owners are not adversely affected.
